Car Rider Guidelines

Car Rider Procedures

It is our highest priority to ensure students' safety as they enter and exit vehicles. We do our best to provide a safe and efficient car line. Thank you for adhering to these procedures to help keep our students safe.

Drop Off:

  • The Car Rider line begins at  7:50 am.
  • Students may disembark only when WES staff are present.
  • Have your child ready to exit the car as you pull up to the sidewalk, our loading/unloading zone (e.g. papers/folders inside backpack, food put away).
  • Pull as far forward as traffic allows. Cars will be unloaded the entire length of the sidewalk, Please do not request that your car pull further ahead or at a door for drop off. This significantly delays our line. Carline is single file - do not pass other cars.
  • All students are required to exit vehicles from the passenger side only. We do not have enough staff members to open all car doors, so many children will need to get out of the car on their own.
  • If you need assistance, please put on your hazard lights and proceed to the end of the carline (do not pass cars). Parents of Specialized Instruction students who require adult assistance will also need to put on your hazard lights and proceed to the end of the carline.
  • If we have rainy days, we will continue to unload the entire length of the sidewalk. Please be sure your children are dressed appropriately. Rainy days significantly increase the size of the carpool line, so you may need to leave earlier to plan for possible delays.
  • School begins at 8:20 a.m. In order to be considered present, your child must be in their classroom by 8:20 a.m. Your child will need at least 5 minutes to get to their classroom, so they should be coming into the building by 8:15 a.m.
  • The gates will be closed/locked at 8:17 a.m. Our car rider staff must get inside the building in order to serve students beginning at 8:20 a.m. If you arrive after 8:17, you will need to pull to the front of the school, park, and walk your child in to sign them in as tardy.

Picking Up:  We dismiss at 3:00 pm.

  • Children should memorize their assigned car rider dismissal number. This is the car rider dismissal number that will be used for daily car rider pick up as well as pick up from after school clubs, tutoring, etc.
  • 2026 car tags must be on display. Leave car tags displayed until students have entered the vehicle.
  • Pull as far forward as traffic allows.
  • Carline is single file - do not pass other cars
  • Students must wait for vehicles to come to a complete stop before loading.
  • All students are required to enter vehicles from the passenger side only.
  • For assistance, pull forward to the end of the sidewalk.

General Precautions:

  • Follow directions of school personnel while in the carline.
  • Speed Limit is 10 mph
  • Carline is single filedo not pass other cars
  • Always remember to have your school-issued car rider tag.  Without a tag, you must park up front, come inside, and show your state-issued identification.
  • Exercise extreme caution at all times while in the car rider line.

Of course, we encourage all of our students to take advantage of our bus transportation. This is the best way to ensure that your students arrive at school on time.

We appreciate all that you do in making our children’s transportation as safe and efficient as possible!
