Whitlow Gifted Team
The Whitlow Gifted Team is made up of students who love to think hard, solve tricky problems, and take on exciting challenges. These learners get to explore advanced math and STEM ideas in fun, creative ways, often going beyond what’s taught in the regular classroom.
Guided by a gifted teacher, students practice deep thinking, teamwork, and perseverance as they prepare for big competitions. They use Beast Academy and other enrichment tools to stretch their math skills, learn new strategies, and build confidence.
Most importantly, the team helps students discover that learning can be exciting, challenging, and full of possibilities. Whether they’re solving puzzles, practicing new math techniques, or cheering each other on, Whitlow’s gifted learners show what it means to be curious, creative, and ready for anything.
Academic Competitions
At Whitlow, academic competitions give students a chance to shine, stretch their thinking, and have fun while tackling big challenges. These events are designed for learners who enjoy problem‑solving, teamwork, and a little friendly competition. Whether students love math, science, reading, or creative projects, there’s a place for them to grow and show what they can do.
Academic competitions help students build confidence, practice perseverance, and learn how to think in new ways. They get to apply what they learn in class to real‑world challenges, solving tough math problems, designing creative solutions, or answering fast‑paced questions under pressure. Along the way, they discover that learning can be exciting, rewarding, and full of surprises.
Whitlow students regularly participate in district and national events. These competitions celebrate hard work and curiosity, and they help students see themselves as capable, creative thinkers who can take on anything.
Science Fairs
Science fairs are an important part of Whitlow’s STEM program because they give students the chance to become real investigators. Instead of simply learning science facts, students ask questions, design experiments, collect data, and share what they discover.
Whitlow uses science fairs as a hands‑on way for students to practice the STEM habits they build all year: curiosity, problem‑solving, teamwork, and clear communication. Students choose topics that interest them, explore ideas through research, and test their thinking with experiments they design themselves. Along the way, they learn how scientists work by observing, recording data, and making conclusions based on evidence.
Most of all, science fairs turn learning into an adventure. Whether students are studying plants, building models, testing forces, or exploring chemistry, they discover that science is something they can explore, question, and enjoy.
Tech Fairs
Whitlow’s Tech Fair is a fun and exciting way for students to show what they can create with technology. It’s a celebration of imagination, problem‑solving, and digital skills, whether students are designing a game, building a website, creating an animation, coding a program, or producing digital art.
Throughout the year, Whitlow students learn how to use technology to think creatively and bring their ideas to life. The Tech Fair gives them a chance to share those projects with others and explain the process behind their work. Families love seeing the variety of projects, and students enjoy showing off something they built.
No matter the level, the Tech Fair helps students build confidence, learn new skills, and discover that technology is a powerful tool for creating, exploring, and solving real‑world problems.
Math Kangaroo
Math Kangaroo is a fun, international math contest that helps students see math in a creative, exciting way. Instead of focusing on speed, students solve colorful puzzles that build logic, problem‑solving, and confidence.
At Whitlow, Math Kangaroo is a welcoming entry point into STEM competitions. Students from all grade levels can participate, try challenging problems, and celebrate their hard work. Every student receives recognition, making the experience positive and encouraging for new and experienced math learners alike.
Most of all, Math Kangaroo helps students discover that math can be playful, interesting, and full of possibilities.
STEM in the Gifted Classroom
In Whitlow’s gifted classrooms, STEM learning is all about curiosity, creativity, and hands‑on discovery. Gifted students dive deeper into science, technology, engineering, and math through projects that challenge them to think in new ways and explore big ideas. Students become scientists, engineers, and problem‑solvers, asking questions, testing ideas, and using evidence to explain their thinking.
Teachers design lessons that stretch students’ abilities, encourage independent exploration, and build confidence. Whether they’re experimenting in a STEM lab, designing models, coding, analyzing data, or tackling advanced math problems, gifted learners get to experience STEM as an exciting, meaningful part of their day.
Most importantly, Whitlow’s gifted STEM program helps students discover what they’re capable of. It nurtures their strengths, celebrates their creativity, and gives them the tools to grow into thoughtful, innovative learners who are ready to take on any challenge.
